Biography
1776-1853
American minister and educator
Brown's father died in 1778, and he was adopted by an uncle in Pennsylvania. He graduated from college in 1794 and became a teacher, and was licensed by the Presbyterian church to preach in 1799. He combined congregational ministry with the presidency of Washington College and then Jefferson College until he resigned with ill health in 1845.
