Herbert Middleton Jr. adopted the name "Taurean" from his astrological sign (Taurus) and the name "Blacque" from his race.

Blacque is best known for his role as "Detective Sergeant Neal Washington" on the long-running cop drama Hill Street Blues (1981), although he is a noted actor with an impressive list of credits.

Blacque is the father of eleven - 2 adult biological sons and 9 children he adopted in the late 1980s.
