Disclosed Adoption (Glossary)

A disclosed adoption is when the identifying information of the birth family is fully disclosed to the adoptive parents and the child.

These types of adoptions allow direct communication between the child's birth family and the adoptive family and most often communication between the child and their birth family. Communication may consist of face to face contact, telephone contact, e-mail contact and letters from a few times a year to several times a month, depending on what is agreed upon between the adoptive parents and the birth family.

Disclosed adoptions is a phrase not heard that often any more, now these types of adoptions are generally referred to as an Open Adoption or a Semi-Open Adoption.
