Synopsis

The Book Thief

This story is told from Death’s perspective and how he meets a girl known as “The Book Thief.” He tells her story of seeing her three times during WWII in Nazi Germany and living with her foster parents. It tells of how Liesel, The Book Thief, begins to steal books even though she cannot read or write. She learns how to read and befriends the Jew, Max, that her foster parents are hiding in their basement. We follow her story as she grows up, writing her own story titled, “The Book Thief.”









Review

This book is full of history and has a unique way of presenting it’s story through Death. It has won several awards and “Best Book of the Year.” It was also adapted into a film and was released in November 2013. There were several nominations for the film score by John Williams and for the actors. The book and the film are both great stories of a foster child as she grows up during WWII.
