Did you get licenced? I have a very small 1 bedroom and just got a 7 month old placement. I previously had a small studio and had a 6 day old placement there. It takes a while. I would get licenced. If you dont feel comfortable with the age of a possible placement because you may have to move to a larger place in a shorter amount of time than you can simply not take it. If you got a newborn you would be fine for 2 years.

Hi there, thanks so much for writing. I was told that I can't even start the classes to begin the licensing process because they would need do a home study within the first couple of weeks of the course and living in a one bedroom wouldn't be acceptable. The lease on my one bedroom apartment expires in 3 months so I was just going to wait it out at this point but I feel like it was a shame because I could have fostered for a whole year already - and I know the need is out there! I'm planning to start the course as soon as I move into a 2 bedroom. Just curious, which city in FL are you located in? I heard that they are more lax in some places than others.
I'm in nj. I have lived in different counties but always in nj. Many people foster in many states with a one bedroom. The tough part is people may give you different answers to the same question. Whenever things come up ask the same question to multiple people. If something isnt common they may...

Whenever things come up ask the same question to multiple people. If something isnt common they may just say people dont do it. It is possible though;) I cant imagine any state would turn away a safe and loving home that easily or due to 1 bedroom. It's just a little tougher with one bedroom because you would have had to wait for a newborn or young infant. Waiting until you are in a 2 bedroom is fine though. There is no rush. Whenever you are done you will be needed and maybe feel more comfortable in a larger space anyway.
I was told I couldnt be on the safe haven list by my worker but then told by a safe haven worker I could foster and be up for a safe haven baby. These workers are overwhelmed and I dont think they have the best training or all have the most current information.
It seems like South Florida might be a little different - I reached out to 3 different agencies and they all said the same thing. I moved from NY less than a year ago and had gone to a foster orientation there and being in a one bedroom was not an issue at all (of course there is lack of space in NYC, so that makes sense). But happy to be just a few months away from moving as I am anxious to get started.
