Are you searching for your birth mother, or have you already made contact? Did you receive non-id or search help from CHS? If you have not found, have you registered with FARR, and have you contacted the Florida Search Angels? You can write me at mjgross1@yahoo.com if you like.

Nothing strange about it..all Florida birth certificates had a stamp of his name it while he was the director of Vital Stats...had nothing to do with adoption.

Hi-
Mine has that name also for the chief bureau of vital statistics and a Wilson T. Sowder, MD but they are both stamped looking with the official seal over the names. Mine says its a certified copy reproduced are true info. of the original. My question: my certificate only shows through number 21 (and 18d and 21 are blank -no signatures) The ONLY other signature on mine (besides the stamped E. Williams and W. Sowder at the top) is on line 18a and it says E.H Williams Jr. On line 20 for Registrar's signature is has Beatrice Marchetti typed in. Mine looks like the bottom has been carefully cut. Does anyone know if these certificate of Live Birth records have anymore info. listed below #19-21? One more Q: is it typical that this cert. of live Birth NOT list the hospital name? My does not but gives an address 12695 S.W. 200 St. Miami, Florida (Dade county) Does this mean I was born in a house and not a hospital? I have Hospital Birth Record from Jackson Memorial and the doctor signature is Dr. Cline, MD but it looks unprofessional with letters not centered and below/above the lines etc. I don't know if that common for these small records. It's also blue (just curious cause I am a female and surely would think they would type this on a pink birth record-if they even had pink). Any and all info would be so helpful because on top of all that-I was told I was adopted by my grandmother and step grandfather-but my birth mother (aka sister)has told me about 5 names for a birth father and I still just get a weird run around if I ask any questions. The other oddity is I was born 2-27-69. The date received on line 19 is 3-7-69 but the stamped date at the top (perhaps the requested copy) was 6-25-74 which is 15 days after my (as far as I know) half sister was born in Miami so I love a mystery...just not when it's about me or I start to wonder stuff like was I found in a ditch or am I part of some alien cover-up. It was 1969 after all!

The certificate is an amended birth cert, which of course is NOT a true copy of the original. Amended certificates do not give the name of the hospital but most do show the county of birth. I would need to see the cert to be sure, but the address is most likely the place of residence of the named parents on the cert, not the place of birth. If you live in Miami or in Broward Co. you can go to the library and look up the address in the Polk City Directories to find out who lived there the year of your birth (look in the 1970 publication for 1969 info). The other dates are nothing to worry about, the cert. is filed with the county, then sent to the state (the March date). The 1974 could be when the amended cert was issued, meaning your adoption may not have been finalized until then. The state certificates are blue, has nothing to do with gender of the child.
Email me privately at mjgross1@bellsouth.net and attach a copy of your BC. Also, if you have non-id from FARR, include that.

Becky,
I have just started searching for a woman born February 14 1979 in Cocoa Beach, Florida. The name "Everett H. Williams, Jr." was also on her amended birth certificate where the doctor's name is supposed to be. The adoptee I'm searching for thought that her adoption had been handled by Catholic Charities.
I'm sorry that I have nothing but the same question you had, and I notice that your posting is several years old. However, I was wondering if you had any luck finding out who this man is.
Thanks,
Penny1940
Williams was the head of I think what is called Florida Department of Health and Welfare or somethign similiar,, he signed all birth certificates from the late 50's through atleast the 70's hope that helps.

What a coinsidense, I was adopted and my DOB is 9-20-76. I also have Everett Willaims Jr. signature on my BC and it has him listed as a M.D on mine. Have you found anything out on this? Thank You
Hi,
I'm afraid that Everett H. Williams, Jr., whose name may also appears as if he were the M.D. on birth certificates of those adopted in Florida, was actually the State Registrar for Vital Statistics, Dept. of Health and Rehabilitation Services. I believe he is now deceased (as of Aug 2006).
Hi, I too have the same name as certifier on my birth certificate, or lack of B.C. I was born in Orlando 12/30/69 and E.H. Williams Jr is from Jacksonville.
E.H. Williams, Jr. was the Chief, Bureau of Vital Statistics so he will show up on all the birth certificates and his name usually appears where a delivering doctor's name would appear on the amended birth certificates of adoptees.
My question is, who are the registrars? Were they hospital workers who filed the birth records with Vital Statistics? Or were they adoption agency employees? Could these names help adoptees verify birth locations? If anyone has info regarding this I would like to know.
My amended certificate states that I was born August 17, 1971 in the city of Jacksonville, Duval County Florida. At the bottom of my amended certificate, the registrar named is Elizabeth Hogan and the "Date Received By Local Registrar" is August 20, 1971. Also, below the BIRTH NO. 109- 71-06**** there is a REGISTRAR NO. 71 6707.
I'd love to compare information with other adoptees, especially if your adoption was handled by Children's Home Society.
ATTENTION: Anyone who can provide knowledge or would like to compare information, I reposted this as a new thread, please respond there.

I was born in Jacksonville, FL and adopted in NY - EH Williams Jr is also listed as Certifier. The small print on my BC says that he certifies that the named child was "born alive at place stated above" but the Attendant is listed as MD - could be any OB. I was born at St Vincent's Hosp but only have a last name of what I assume is my birthmom - nothing else to work with.
