Hello my name it Tiffany as you might have figured out from my username. Im almost 13 and I want to adopt and I expressed my feelings to my dad and he loves the idea. My dad has been raising my brother and me for the past 7 years. We sort of know how to start the process but are not too sure. We think that you get the homestudy and then wait for the child. What is the homestudy? What kinda questions do they ask you? Why does it take so long to get the homestudy over? Who do you contact to start the homestudy process? Does it cost anything to get a homestudy? Why does it cost more to adopt a baby than it does to adopt a child? or does it? Why does it cost anything to adopt if your helping someone in need??? please answer my questions thanks

Tiffany, your desire to adopt is a noble one and I'm sure some day you will be a wonderful adoptive parent. However, all agencies require that you be at least 21 years old before adopting. You have several years to enjoy your own childhood and adolescence before thinking about becoming a parent. Try to be patient!
Best wishes,
Lee

Tiffany, I think it's great that your family has begun the process of researching adoption. One of your parents really needs to take the lead now to find this information. They are the ones who will make the decisions, fill out the paperwork, etc., so they need to be the ones to gather the information. We would be happy to help them using this discussion board, but many of us would prefer to share our experiences only with another adult. They have the life experience to understand more of the ins and outs of the process, and we will know our information is getting directly to the person who will be using it. In the meantime, you can focus on learning about adoption and how siblings can make things easier and more enjoyable for an adopted child. Good luck to you all!
