I was adopted from Greece by an American family when I was 5 and am now 50. I finally found my birth family and have been communicating by mail (language barrier) ever since and how wonderful and sad that has been for us. I have recently found out that my records are also sealed and I have to plead my case to the court (WA state). I have all my original documents that my adoptive parents gave me and in them they state that I have an American birth certificate on file but have recently found out that is not true, but there might be one in my file, which is sealed. Now what, I so want to be with my family in Greece, my Bmother is still alive and have 3 Bsisters, several nieces and nephews but this is the horrible part of it... I have been told that I may not be citizen of the US, after living here for 45 years! I have my original Greek birth certificate tho, my Bsister sent it me; now how do I travel to my family, how does this happen, why should this be such issue for me? I was told by WA state that I have to call INS to find out about passport/visa info but am somewhat afraid at this point. My Bfamily awaits me, my Afamily doesn't understand why this should be happening to me. My Adoptive father passed on and my Amother has health issues at this point, any ideas on how to see my Bfamily besides turning myself into the INS!! Mary
Both bparents met at work-probation officers in the Bay Area (CA). dob 3/29/63. Birthplace Concord,CA. Adopted out of Oakland,CA through CHS. County finalized in was Orange County (Santa Ana),CA. on 8/7/64.
Just turned 40. Phoned Martinez,CA. County Superior Courts. Woman suggested I go on Unsolved Mysteries.
Born Baby Girl James/Lawson. She was 23, he was 39. Divorced before I was born. Decided not financially ready for the responsibility as he already had 3 daughters from a previous marriage.
She had a degree in Sociology. He had a degree in Psychology. His dad was a retired dentist,so was my bdad. Supposedly, my birth granddad (paternal) taught at a college (dentistry).
Probation Dept for Contra Costa County checked all Oaths of Office. None matched. Maybe employed in Oakland or nearby county. It was not in Concord's county of Contra Costa.
Anybody w/any ideas to further aide in my research w/b VERY much appreciated!

I am an unusual case. I was never legaly adopted. It was a form of black market adoption. I have Post Traumatic Stress Disorder from server childhood abuse. And I was told by my amom that the only reason she took me was so I would take care of her and her retarded son until they died. Adoption is not always a good thing.I would not mind being on TV to tell my story, but not a talk show. You can PM me, if you are interested.rayma
I forgot to tell you that only wanting positive stories is onesided and lieing about adoption. As a bmom pointed out to me, the bparents NEED to know that there are adoptees that are abused. So they can make an informed dission. People deserve that facts, not just the candy-coated version.rayma
