Hi,
I don't consider myself an artist, but I do consider myself creative and I recognize the importance of art in my life. And, it's never too early to help children to express their creativity and recognize the art around them.
Begin early and allow your kids to experiment with art. They will progress when they are encouraged and have art supplies available ... so have plenty of paper, crayons, finger paints, water colors, yarn, pasta etc. on hand. Create a place where children feel free to explore and make time for art on a regular basis. Make sure to appreciate your child's efforts by keeping their work on display and encourage your children to give their artwork as gifts.
Visit museums and galleries to teach children what art can be. Recognize and teach children to see the art in the everyday world - by talking to them about shape and color. And above all, encourage children to be different rather than 'staying within the lines'.
How have you enjoyed art with your children?
Were you encouraged, as a child, to enjoy creative expression?
