There are some really good books out there regarding search and reunion. Reunion is such a unique experience. I will always remember when my dh and I searched and planned the reunion between my dh's dad and his birthfamily. Very emotional and overwhelming! My mind raced with so many options and questions. My father-in-law is such a caring and grateful person. It is amazing to see him with his bio aunt and long lost relatives.
There is a search and reunion book that I read almost cover to cover. It was easy to read and explored what an adoptee may go through when connecting with their birth parents. Each person is different and their reunion will be "their" reunion. Their unique experience. It helps to read a book like "Whose Child" because you can learn about adoptees, and be interested in the details of someone like Kasey Hamner's life both at the same time. I really liked it and felt it was well written because it is easy to read and factual and enjoyable.
Here are some Search and Reunion Books. I recently read Finding Me in a Paper Bag by Sally Howard and I enjoyed every minute of it. It tells the story of a young adult adoptee who is forced to give her own daughter up for adoption and the inner struggle that she faces dealing with the emotions from being on both sides of adoption. Twenty years later Sally decides to begin searching for her birth parents and her daughter. Sally shares the deep pain she feels as the searches remain unproductive and the closure she experiences when at last a reunion takes place. This story is a touching look at the range of emotions involved in the search and reunion process.
