I've read your posts today. I just thought I'd say Congratulations and good luck. There is a children's hospital (Kapi'olani) in Honolulu about 2 miles away from Waikiki, is that where the birth mom's deliver?

Sue, Congratulations on your good news! I bet you jump every time the phone rings!! Getting the referral is great, but waiting for the baby to be born is also a long wait. We got our referral at the end of July and are going to travel within the next few weeks. Seems like it has taken forever for October to get here!! It seems like this process has been so long... But now that we have made it to number one we are getting frazzled as each day passes. We have been playing the guessing game: Will it be aboy or a girl? When will the baby be born? Etc. Too funny. I used to think it would be a girl, but now I think we will have a boy. Neither of us care which gender. We are open to either. BUt this certainly does make the waiting seem a little more exciting, not knowing. Darlene, when is your baby due? October 16th? Wow! I will be keeping you in my thoughts these next few weeks. You will have to keep me posted and let me know when the baby is born. Do you know where you are going to stay? We have look at the Aston Waikiki Banyan. One bedroom condos close to zoo, aquarium and beach and shopping. Thanks to everyone for all of your well wishs. I will certainly keep posting every time I get new information. And hopefully the next post will be a great one!!!:D

Sue, Our baby is due on the 16th.....What a wait it has been since the referral!!! We haven't yet decided on a place to stay but have some friends there that we can stay with for a day or so until we decide. The place you talked about sounds convenient. We plan on going to the zoo while we are there. I called around for flights today, but without departure dates we can't confirm anything yet. One airline suggested medical emergency but said it depends on who you talk to when booking the flight. Any ideas about last minute flights? I was told to call the Denver office for Northwest airlines. They are said to give a 50-65% discount on airline tx for adopting families, but only through the Denver office. SA has a travel agent who deals with adoptions as well listed on theri web pages. They might be a good place to call. Alot of airlines will give disounts as long as you know who to call and what to say...

We are preparing as well and have spoken to Federal Travel. We will be traveling to OK from VA and they quoted us a price of $850 per ticket I believe, that is very last minute. We were told to call on the way to the airport and they will have us on the next flight. No need to prepay or anything. The price was about $300 higher per ticket for this type of ticket as opposed to booking 30 days in advance well worth it in our opinion. They make a file with your information and when the time comes they don't need too much from you. I will likely call back as we get closer to confirm everything is set. They can also help with hotel reservations but their prices didn't seem better than we could get ourselves. Congratulations Sue!! I have enjoyed reading your posts and so happy to hear that you were matched. We also are going through Southern Adoption and find them wonderful. All our paperwork and Birthmother book was sent in this week. Just waiting for criminal clearances to come in so that we can get the homestudy started. It will take only 1 month for the approval from the date of assignment with a social worker and then we can go forward with SA to be matched. We are very anxious and so are our 5 young boys to have a little girl. Keep us posted with your sonogram. Any other advise you can give us? All our best, Sharon
