Hi all!!
I just got off the phone with dh and am very frustrated. We have been trying to have another child for 4 years, and discovered he now has a seriously low sperm count. He was all for adoption, but now he is dragging his feet. We were turned down by the county, but LDSFS has assured us we are perfect adoptive parents. He wanted to go through the county because of the cost. I always wanted to go through LDSFS, and felt it was our best choice. DH is put off by the money. We make really good money, but we would need to change our lifestyle to save the money. Any advice would be wonderful!

Fees with LDSFS are actually very low, especially compared with many other agencies. They go by a sliding scale, as you probably know. But no more then $10,000. Also, you may want to remind DH that the tax credit for adoption is $10,000.
Interesting that the county has turned you down. There are SO many children through the state systems that are in need of homes. Unless you are limiting your adoption to only a healthy white newborn.
Now may be a good time to evaluate your expendatures, anyways. It is always good to live within our means. And the further within our means we live, the more we are able to save, and to be prepared for any 'what ifs', be they adoption, career change, college funds for children, etc.
Best of luck to you!:)

The first thing that comes to my mind is: is he really on board with the idea of adopting/having more children? I don't want to upset the apple cart, but is it really about money? I don't know, but you may need to explore this.
Adoption is just plain expensive, but the adoption tax credit takes a big chunk out of the costs, and as stated in the previous post, LDSFS is very reasonable.
I know that some people really do struggle with the perception that they are "buying" a child, or it just plain fries their cheeze that it is so expensive. If this is his concern, I'd suggest sitting down with a SW and trying to resolve it. Whatever the case, you do both have to be on the same page before you proceed.
I hope you are able to get things sorted out.
