My daughter is planning to give up her twins when they are born in a couple of months. She left an abusive husband, and she left with 3 kids and nothing else, so she could really use a little help getting her life started again. Is it ok or legal to ask the adoptive parents for monetary help or a car to get to work (or anything like that), since they won't be paying for her living expenses or medical expenses? (We, her parents, took care of that already.) Please advise asap; thanks!

State law controls on these issues, and so your daughter should consult with an adoption atttorney in her state (the adoptive parents should pay the legal fees). There is a directory of adoption attorneys nationwide at Please make sure you consult with an experienced adoption attorney, not a general practitioner. Sometimes, the local court having jurisdiction over adoptions can recommend experienced adoption attorneys in your area. I would hope that she would be able to legally obtain the assistance you are seeking under the circumstances. Good luck.
