My sisters were both put up for adoption by the state- none of us were 'kept' by our mother. I am the oldest and one of my sisters is 20 and one is 16. I have had to live with this agony since they were born- I am 33 now with a family of my own-but it feels so incomplete without knowing where my sisters are...
They were both born in Virginia and I have MUCH more info about the youngest, but what can I do with it? I don't know if I am 'allowed' to search for her or not?

You aren't allowed to search in the state of VA until the adoptee reaches age 18. I know this sounds harsh. A friend just found out she has sisters, twins, 9 yrs old out there somewhere and can't even start a search. My heart goes out to you and my friend. Just 2 more years for you. Keep the faith, honey!

Hi Kim,
Both of my siblings were placed for adoption in VA.
I was the only one kept. When I was 23 my brother found me and was on an earnest quest for our baby sister. He hired an attorney. It was costly but he found her in no time.
Check Va. state laws. There are many free legal sites on the web. Just use a search engine.
Blessings in your search,
EL
PS. You cannot search for any MINOR child. I'd be careful about that. But you can search for the other one.
Kim, Were you adopted? I am looking for a 33 yr old sister name Kim who was put up for adoption?
Please email me at sulrich20@aol.com
And by the way, I can give you some advice on the Va search laws. You are very very limited........ but, we can try and help each other.
I also own an adoption search group on Yahoo and you may want to join - we have searchers.
Look forward to hearing from you
Sherry
