THE NEVADA STATE LEGISLATURE

CHILDREN, YOUTH AND FAMILIES COMMITTEE

TOOK UP FOR INTERIM STUDY THE ISSUE OF

ADULT ADOPTEE ACCESS TO BIRTH AND ADOPTION RECORDS

On Tuesday, December 16th, 2003 Nevada Open and Coalition Partners came before the Nevada State Legislature's Interim Standing Committee on Children, Youth and Families. During the public testimony portion, we requested the committee to take up our issue of adult adoptee unrestricted access to their own birth and adoption records, as put forward in the 2003 Session in Senate Bill 267.

Senator Raymond Rawson (Chair) established a sub-committee on adoption, chaired by Senator Maggie Carlton. Nevada Open and Coalition Partners will come before the sub-committee, when that hearing is scheduled. According to today's meeting, that hearing could be as soon as February 12th, 2004.

We urge all searchers and activists who have a connection to Nevada adoption to contact Nevada Open and join the growing numbers who are lobbying for the rights of adult adoptees to access, without restriction, their own birth and adoption records.
