Has anyone ever taken their children to the orphanage with them? I was considering taking my 16 year old son to the orphanage along with my wife. Do they discourage this? I want to make sure that they'll get along well. Please help me out.
I haven't traveled yet, but I know when I researched agencies some said I would not be able to take them, some have said it is ok but not recommended. I would love to take mine also, but probably will not. Mainly because I have no idea what will be going on, where I will be or if things will happen as expected(sure they won't). Let us know what you decide though.

We are planning on taking our almost 4 year old son with us. (everyone thinks we are INSANE). We have one advantage, our son was adopted from Ukraine 15 months ago...we are hoping that works as a "free pass" for us. We are planning on adopting from the same orphanage, I think all his nannies will be thrilled to see one of "theirs" return. Never the less we have sent a letter to the director asking if she will approve.
I think it would be great to take your 16 year old, what a great experience to give your child. Plus it will help for him to be involved in the process. I guess worse case scenerio, if the orpahange director is against him coming into contact with other children( because of diseases) maybe you could arrange to meet outdoors or in a private area.
I would pressure your agency to get you a definite answer, that's waht you're paying them for.
If he wants to go, I'd take him. :)
Good Luck!!
