My husband and I are interested in adopting siblings from Albania and have just started the process. We are open to any input and suggestions from families who have adopted children from Albania.
We are looking into Bethany Services as one agency. Open to any stories that adoptive families can share!

Our family adopted a then 18 month old girl from Tirana, Albania in Dec. 2002. I would be happy to communicate with you regarding this. We are definitely fans of adopting Albanian children. It is a special country that "grows" on you.

It seems that all the parents who adopted from Albania adopted in the 90's...was this program closed for many years? I tried to do a search awhile back on Albania programs...it seemd Bethany Services, was the only agency that was to have a program coming soon. I am just curious if this program exists yet, or is soon to be implemented. Thanx for any input!

Most (not all) of the posts, seem to be from parents that adopted in the 90's. Was this program gone, and is it now re-instated, or is it soon to be?Thank you.

When I researched Albanian Adoption I found two agencies that worked there:

I'm not sure why more adoptions aren't done there, could
it be the cost? From what I can tell it is not because of the Hague treaty.

The program did 'slow down' a bit due to political issues in the country. I think the 'number' of adoptions from the country is small because of a few reasons:
only two agencies handle the country
limited info available about such a small/unknown country
infants are not available - toddler+ are
There have been adoptions thru there is 2000+, but I think the numbers were limited due to political issue.
They have a new person in charge of the adoptions (a political position) and things are sounding much more positive. I think there will be more adoptions being processed.

wasn't meaning to be asking about the agency per se, rather was inquiring about the concept of adoption in that country in general.
