I have heard of numerous families submitting their dossier to the Brazilian government for adoption but have not heard of any actually receiving referrals yet nor making the trip down. Can you share with me your success story if the adoption went through and who you worked with in the process? I know there are several adoption agencies claiming they can place children from Brazil (ages 3 and up) but none have success stories. Also, is it true that only African children are available to foreigners?
Thanks!
Hi! I can tell you wonderful stories, recent, about adoption in Brazil. I am in the process of adopting two siblings.
However I am having a problem with this site, and please send me a note to meuanjo@juno.com so we can talk.

We adopted our son from Brazil in January 1985 when he was 5 weeks old...came with a full head of hair! Caramel colored and handsome, and the only thing "ethnic" about him is his hair...not that we ever cared, but some people do and you need to feel comfortable with your decision, since people at the mall will stare at you (if both parents are white). You learn to ignore it. There were 13 families from our area who networked one after another over a period of a year until funky stuff started happening with some of the judges and the window of opportunity closed. From arrival of our paperwork in the country to baby in our arms took 2 months start-to-finish...very fast!...and we had had our other South American son for only a year at the time. The boys are now 19 and 21, both in college, and fantastic. Although we didn't use an agency, we worked with an attorney in Brazil plus their Department of Child Welfare and stayed for a week until the paperwork was in order (lovely country). Good luck in your search...what a blessing to find these children!
