My husband and I are going to be having our homestudy in March !! We have choosen to adopt through the state. and really want a toddler (boy)
Im hoping someone can give me some insite onto what kind of questions they ask or at least what you were asked I'm hoping it wont be quite so scary for me if I have a general idea of what to expect
I have a ton of questions . I suppose if I were to call the SW they would answer them for me -----The truth is Im scared out of my mind because these people hold my future in there hands
Just when I get excited about the idea of having a little one to love I read how hard it is to adopt through PA.
I understand them trying to keep natural parents with there children but Is it really almost impossible to adopt a toddler
(1 to 2 1/2 age) that has no siblings ( we dont have the bedroom space) and isnt severe ( physically mentally ect.)
If any one has adopted a toddler through Pa without being a foster parent first? I would really like to hear from them. I just have a hard time believing that throughout the whole state of Pa there isnt one single toddler out there that could make my family----my life complete !!! Guess i'm just having a down night and could use a touch of encouragement !
Thanks for reading and thanks in advance for responding
Take Care and Good Luck on whatever road you may be traveling !!!

Hey...you might be in my neck of the woods. I live in Seneca PA...half way between Erie and Pittsburgh. I wanted to tell you that we have two very good support groups in this area. The Northwestern PA foster/adoption support group out of Meadville and the Forever Families Support group in Franklin/Oil City area. If you go to yahoo...look up the Northwestern PA Foster/Adoption support group on there. Great bunch of people. Do not worry about the homestudy. They will ask the questions they have to ask but it is not such a scary proceedure. Just fill out all paperwork to the best of your ability and have a nice chat with the Social Worker in your home...and you are done. The clearances are nothing different than you would need to work for a school district etc. If you would like any info on the support groups here...please e-mail me at gkasche@usachoice.net They are a great group of people and the support is really needed during the process. Remembering how it felt for us years ago...like we were the only ones waiting or going through adoption was the reason we started the support groups. The response has been tremendous. I wish you the best. Karen

I just joined this group this morning and am already finding valuable informations. I would love to know more about the group who meets in Oil City. I live in NE , OH (the Youngstown area) but have a summer home in Clarington in Forest County. We have been foster parenting for the past eight years and are considering adopting the four girls we have had in our care for the past 14 months. Just getting the advise and support from others would be such a blessing. We don't have a foster parent group in our county but, are planning on starting one soon.
Thanks,
Gail
Dear Gail...if you can privately e-mail me your e-mail address...I will add it to our data bank of everyone to be notified for the next meeting in the Oil City area. I am co-founder of the Oil City group Forever Families. We saw just such a great need for adoption support in the area. We are very laid back and not formal at all. We meet twice a year for now. In the spring and in the fall. We will be having another get together around May. We invite all children to attend with their families for a few hours of play time...good eats...and friendship. We are open to anyone thinking of adoption, in the process of adoption, or waiting on a child. We have many who are foster/adopting...domestic adoption from SWAN...domestic adoption through private agencies...and a lot of families who have children through international adoption from India, China, Russia, West Samoa, Guatemala, etc. etc. It is a great bunch of people and a nice afternoon of fun. At this point we do not have speakers coming in...the time is just for adopted and bio children to play together. And all families to talk about their experiences and give advice if needed. Anyone who might be interested in attending the spring picnic can contact me at gkasche@usachoice.net If you would like info on the Meadville group...go to Western PA Foster/Adoption support group at yahoo.
