Well, I hope this works and is allowed.
Are you familiar with Panama Molas? It's native Indian artwork done by Kuna Indians. It's very bold and bright and very unusual. I decided years ago (before we even thought about adoption) to do our nursery in this theme. Ironic, isn't it since we're now adopting from Panama? Course my entire house looks like a tourist shop for Panama since that's where hubby's from!! LOL It took a few years for Molas to grow on me, but now I'm hooked.
Our nursery isn't complete by any means. I have to cover the crib bedding with denim. Then I'm going to put Mola appliques on it. I gotta make denim curtains and a curtain panel for the closet (the closet door was too big so we took it off) and put appliques on the twin bedding and curtains, too. And I have to frame some mola art to put on the walls, as well. It is such a happy room, I love to go in there and sit.
It's already different from what's in this album. We've hung wall shelves and some Mola art on the walls, but I don't own a digital camera (yet!!). We have some dolls of the Panamanian dancers (forgot how to say the name), a Chiva bus figurine, and a figurine of a yellow Panamanian frog on one display shelf. It's so cute!!!
It's hard to see the Mola pillows on the twin bed in the pics, but you can search on google or Ebay "kuna molas", "panama molas", or just "molas" to get a good close look.
I can't wait to send our completed nursery pics with our dossier! Bet the DNA will get a kick out of it.

Enjoy!

Thanks, Robin, for the fun thread!! How nice. Your nursery looks like it's really coming along, and what a great and creative idea with the Mola theme. Have a great time finishing it up :)
Just wondering, is anyone else working on a nursery? Or perhaps have one finished??

We are decorating our son's room in a rainforest theme. The curtains are hanging from a bamboo curtain rod and a leafy vine runs across the top of the curtains.
We are waiting on a bed until we get a referral and find out a more exact age, since we have requested a toddler. We could end up with anywhere from 18 months to almost four. If he's closer to four years old, we'll need to get a "real" bed as opposed to a toddler bed or crib.

We are waiting to start the nursery, but after reading this thread I want to start today! We have looked and have ideas for furniture and a style. Just not sure when to start, having a completed nursery and no baby or even a referral would be so hard. I'm anxious to hear what others are doing.
Robin, thanks for the info on the Molas, what a great idea!

We were a bit like Robin and jumped the gun. We had our nursery done around August and completly finished it after our first referral. We did it in antique toys red and sage green. Oh I sit in there all the time. We are actually moving to a new home at the end of March and it makes me a little sad because we never got to use it:( But on the brighter side it acutually was very theraputic and like I said we sit in there and have pictures of our son all over. Our next house we are thinking of doing his room in the bear and moose log cabin stuff or old westerns, but after I heard all these awesome ideas about Panama stuff it may change:) Oh I want to bring him home soon so so bad!!!!!

I have found it very calming and therapeutic to go in the nursery and sit. It doesn't make me sad at all, like I hear a lot of parents worry. I think for us, we NEEDED to start it early so we can always remember what the heck we're doing this for when we do get frustrated. When I get so frazzled at the paperchase and start feeling like I want to walk away from the whole thing, I open that door and sit on that bed and stare.
I think of how one day that room's gonna be a total mess cluttered with toys. How those pretty walls are likely to have crayon markings. How I'm going to have to possibly fight with Evan and/or Sarah to clean it or go to bed. Or rock them to sleep and kneel for our bedtime prayers. How I'm going to have to strip the crib and bed and do all that extra laundry (ugh). The room is not empty and soul-less. It's just waiting like we are for one or two little munchkins to wreak havoc in it. LOL
And since it's our only other bedroom, it is occasionally used as our guest room while we wait. My mom slept in that bed last weekend and my nephew is going to be using it tonight. That helps, too, in a way, because it's not a sacred shrine or museum piece. It's not something that's closed off from the world. It' not empty and soul-less. So, I encourage all of you who have that itch to work on that nursery to actually find ways to use it while you wait. Or at least let it become your refuge, a place where this adoption crap finally feels real and isn't just a stack of papers in a file folder or an elusive phone-call away.
That's my spin.
