Our lawyer had initially quoted us a total of around $2,000 for the entire adoption including filing fees, etc. We completed our home study which was $350 and completed our paperwork. Our lawyer is now requesting more money up front because her attorney fees alone have already added up to over $1,300. We haven't even gone to court yet. Court time (included the time she sits and waits in the hall) will be charged at $150 per hour. We all know that courts run like doctor's offices - we wait until they are ready. We now sent her $250 and asked her to bill us the rest when the case was finished but she is not willing to do this. She wants all the money up front. We are thinking it wasn't such a good idea to hire her in the first place. Especially since their father is so willing to terminate his rights. There are no arguements to win - just papers to file. I'm sure her legal fees alone will run up past $3,000 before the case is done. We are going to terminate her services and go through the rest on our own. My point is - if the father is willing to terminate his parental rights, it is probably best to go through the process yourself and maybe look online for help to simple questions and the steps to doing it. The following site is really helpful.I hope all works well for you.Good Luck

Hi, my son's bfather signed a document although not notarized, stating that he had no intentions of keeping in contact with our son and he was willing to give up paternity rights. well, i guess for the courts is not enough, now they are asking me to find him and have him sign a consent from the courts, well I have no idea where he is at..To get that particular paper that he sign it took me almost 3 and a half years to get and now they are asking me to find him. I have no idea where he is at.. can anyone direct me on what to do...???i need some kind of guidance...
