Hello fellow searchers.
Thanks to this board and the helpful hints of "the search guru" I was able to find my birth family.
The two biggest helps for me were my updated non-ID info and the CA birth index.
The CA birth index enabled me to know my mothers maiden name which then led to my aunt who I found on the CA marriage index and was able to get a current phone number through her married name.
Good luck to all and don't give up. The Lord will show you your path when He feels you're ready!

Be aware that the California Birth Index on-line in not a complete listing of all births in California...it is only a partial listing. Some years both the birth names and adopted names are listed. Other years the birth name is listed but not the adopted name or the adopted name is listed but not the birth name.

Ok, I've poured over the vital statistic list one hundred times, the ammended name is not listed so I'm assuming the birth name is. Out of 36 boys born in that county on that date not one doesn't have a first name. I have narrowed the list down to 4 people I can't "account" for on the internet (searching various networking sites and people finding websites) None of the four had birth announcements run in the newspaper. Two of the four names are listed twice, one with the same last name as the mother and then again with another last name. One of those names I requested an informational copy of the birth certificate to compare to the ammended and nothing matches up (ie time of birth, hospital, doctor, etc...). One of the names appears that he may be Hispanic given the surname of the mother with my husband is not but I don't want to assume the name is Hispanic because it's not that obvious (Like Jose Rodriguez maiden name Gonzales who came off the list immediately.) That only leaves two names, both of which I've found some info on but not enough to be positive to discount them. It would be helpful to have the non-identifying information to go off but I"ve sent off the request and still haven't received anything. Could it be possible that the website has neither the ammended nor the original name listed?

the website is:
VitalSearch-California(USA):California Birth Records and Certificates
if you have problems with that you can go to:
VitalSearch-California(USA):California State Vital Records
that is the CA State portal. Scroll down just a bit and on the left is a white box that list:
state marriage indices
state death indices
state birth indices
highlight one of those and click "go" you will need a "free guest pass" (it is free) and then you put in the surname (last name you are searching)
I did buy a three month subscription because a friend I was searching for had no info at all. "premiun searcher" lets you vary in the info you search with ie: DOB, mothers last name, county of birth, etc. If there is something I can help you search, I'll try to do it for you (remember the search gurus warnings about posting too much info though) I could never have found my birth family without help from others so now its my turn to return the favor.
I will tell you it was WAY COOL to actually see MY NAME in the CA birth index. It was like "Hey, Wow, I WAS really born"
Good luck to all and let me know if any of this was not clear

Thanks to thesearchguru, I understand that the online California Birth Index" is "not a complete listing of all births in California... Some years both the birth names and adopted names are listed. Other years the birth name is listed but not the adopted name or the adopted name is listed but not the birth name..."
Does anyone know how complete the records for 1981 are? I found my daughter's original birth info using my name. What are the chances that one of the other 217 records are her amended birth certificate? I know her Aparents' approx age and ancestry, and can sift thru the records to see which are more likely to be hers, yet wonder if there is a better way to approach the search? The adoption was thru LA County, and I have already contacted them for the non-ID info, signed a consent form, and joined a few registries.
Any advice that would or might help me find my birth daughter is most welcome.
Thanks in advance!

Hi. I have no idea if you can help me with this request...I have an older brother who was born and adopted in California. His name is Mark and his mother's name is Twyla (not sure how to spell her name). I think he was born in 1963 or 1964. His mother was married at the time of birth and the adoption. Prior to moving to California she and her husband lived in Melmore, Ohio. Her husband was in the military. I have no other information as it is being with held from me by the only people who know it. THANKS so much for anything you can do to hep me.
