We got married 3 years ago, and I am an American citizen. My wife has received permanent residency in the US from INS.
The 3 of us live together as a family in Los Angeles. We submitted papers on behalf of my wife's son to the INS for his permanent residency. He is in the process of getting his social security number.
My wife's son has some contact with his biological father. They talk on the phone occasionally and he has spent some vacations with him in Hungary. The father has even visited his son once in LA.
I want to adopt my stepson. We are a family of 2 career professionals with good incomes, so money is not a problem or limiting factor.
I'm interested in how these things work, what we are supposed to do, what our options are, and what rights does my stepson's biological father have?
Thank you very much,
