All I know about my birth parents is that they are from Arkansas, they were young when they got married and found themselves pregnant. They decided to put me up for adopotion when I was born. I have no idea if this took place before, after or during the divorce. I believe that their last name is/was Owen or Owens. I would love to just talk to you and find out about myself, my history ... including medical. Please, if you are out there ... contact me. By the way .... you have a beautiful grandson!
If your adoption was handled in Tennessee, I read an article that said adoption records are open to an adoptee 21 yrs of age or older. You may want to write to the court that finalized your adoption and request your records. If it was handled in another state you need to find out the laws reguarding that state and adoption records. Here is a website that can help you find out the laws http://naic.acr.hhs.gov/database/nadd/naddsearch.cfm
You can also contact the agency that handled your adoption and request your non-indentifying information. Good Luck and keep me posted.

Maria,
Thank you. I have recieved my letter from the department of human services in TN. I am on SSI, and I have sent in my response with th proper paper work. If they do not approve my case, thn I will have to give up going through them. THEY CHARGE TO MUCH!!! They want a fee for my information, they say they want to help but all they want is your money! They are paid by the state, they receive a salary regardless, so you would think that would be enough for them. But NO!!!! They want more and don't care that you don't have the funds. So those of you who are thinking about going through the Department of Children services for adoptions, be prepaired to have a heafty bank account!!!!! And then right your congressman and tell him or her that if they are going to charge you, and you still have to paytaxes to pay thatdepartment their salaries, then someone is getting screwed and its not them, its US!!!!

Maria,
Just so you know, I am not upset with you! And my reply was not directed to you, but just to worn anyone seeking help through the TN Department ofAdoptive Services. I thank you for your help and kind remarks and I wish you all the best in your search for what you are looking for.

Sherri,
I know your post wasn't directed at me. I understand how frustrating it is to try and get info that belongs to you and they expect you to pay for it. I just remember somewhere I read that if you contact your local DSS for non-identifying info that they cannot charge you for it and they have to give it to you. And the website I read on TN adoption records, of course, says nothing about money, they save that for when you call. I just thought if you knew the court that finalized the adoption, that maybe you could petition them for your record and they wouldn't charge you. In MD, I can go through DHR or I can petition the court to unseal my husband's records. The only problem I have is they can find no record of his adoption and his amom will not tell me the date it was finalized. Like I said in my pm, you can e-mail me if you need someone to talk to, or if you need to vent some anger. Believe me I won't take offense. I just want to try and be helpful and if that means hearing your anger, I don't mind if it helps you.
I will keep you in my thoughts and prayers. E-mail me whenever you need to. GOOD LUCK and please keep me posted.
