The list is not sorted by gender or race
and is not by counties either
only children borned in the State of Missouri
So are you saying the childs ammended (adoptive name) would be on this list? Does anyone know about this scenario....
My cousins were born in Missouri in 1954 & 1955. They were orphaned & adopted in 1959-early 1960 when they were 5 & 6 yrs. old.
Since they weren't "infants" when they were adopted, do you know if the birth index would show their birth name or adopted name?
I will gladly pay the $27 because I think it would be worth it, but to pay $54 to get both the indexes, just to see their birth names on there would be frustrating, since I already know all that information.
I want to find their adopted names and I think they went to the same family, and HOPEFULLY the adoptive parents kept their first names the same (since they were 5 & 6 when they were adopted and already knew what their names were). My male cousin had a very unusual German first name.
Thanks!
Karmen
My cousins were born in Lafayette Co. Missouri.
Another thing I'm confused about is whether they are listed under their adopted names & the County that the adoptive parents live in? Oh well, worth a shot either way I guess.
Can you get the lists cheaper if you go yourself & get them??
Thanks again!

Thanks for your replies, you have been very helpful.
I have cousins who live in Concordia & Independence, and thought maybe one of them could get the lists for me cheaper... I guess not! :(
There was a bunch of "scandal" surrounding the parents deaths and it was such a small town, that is part of why they didn't let the children go to anyone in either birth family. It seems like back in the 50's everything was a scandal though, lol
I just worry that they adopted them out of the State to get them away from it all.
I guess since they were born in Missouri, than those certificates would still need to be ammended, reguardless of what State they lived in after adoption.
I am just going to go for it, I have nothing to lose really. Except some money, but finding them is worth it. I think the lists will help me trace them. NOW I am excited!!!!!!!!!!!
Thanks again!

Have you thought about requesting the birth index only for your cousin with the unusual first name? It might be a start, that way you don't have to spend the entire $54.00 right from the start. I would think that there should be an amended birth certificate even if they were adopted at age 5 and 6. It doesn't matter what state they were adopted in, the birth certificate will be in the state that the child was born. I requested a birth index for April 22, 1982 if anyone might need this particular list. Good luck in your seach.

FYI - I just spoke w/Sheila Murphy, cost is now $52.50 and the name on the list is changed to reflect any amended birth certificates. So I was born on 9/12/1972 and adoption finalized on 2/22/1974 but because it was done thru St. Louis County Courts and certificate amended, the index would reflect what my name is now. I only know my original first name and non-identifying info - any ideas out there?
