I am new at this and am trying to find my son born 4/2/71. I don't know where to start and with all these forums to go to I am lost. Please help me get a start at how to start searching. My son was born in Quakertown, PA and the adoption papers read that the adoption took place in Reading, PA. Thank you for your suggestions and help.

Hi Debbie,
What a touching post - especially reading it as an adoptee. Here is the info for the state. I have found that going through both the state and the agency is the most effective. Ther are many things that the agency is not able to give you, however, there are some things that they can give that could be helpful.
Here is the info for the state (copied from a posting by the search guru). If you get anything to work with, I'd be happy to help you out.

I just wanted to check in and let you know that I have not been too successful at this time. The church does not give any information out on adoptions that all information is private. They refused to set up any type of appointment. I have been trying to get information from the Reading Courthouse. Instead of phone calls that I get put on hold and nobody gets back on the line; I plan to go to the courthouse next week. I will let you know how I make out. You are absolutely right by saying you have to be a "detective". I have registered in several different places now and keep trying. I just need to thank you all for all the great information that you have given me. I appreciate it so much. My twin daughters thank you also. They would love to meet their brother.

Debbie: Maybe I can help. I currently live in Arizona, but am leaving in a few days to drive back to Quakertown.
The only church I can recall on Park Avenue is the United Church of Christ across from Q-town High. In the 60s the Methodists were located on Broad St., and several years ago they moved out to Portzer Road; I'm sure I can find someone who can help me find out where the Methodists were in the early 70s, the time period you'd be interested in.
I'll also check into the adoption agency you mentioned.
I'm unhooking my computer tomorrow, but I should be back online in Quakertown by July 12. Hope I can find something for you! Take care of yourself...Joyce

Deb,
My name is Steven. I was born on April 2, 1971 in Quakertown, PA. and adopted immediately. My parents lived in Reading, PA and my adoption was through United Methodist Church. There is a strong possiblity that I may be the son you are looking for. I hope you see this or someone else will and pass the information along to you.
I have had a great life and my parents have been open from the start about the adoption. If you would like to contact me please call me at 623-936-9348 home number or my cell phone number 623-217-3005. Please call me anytime, collect or whatever. I feel that you are my birth mother and I would love to talk to you as soon as possible. This is not a joke, I have been looking for you, and had given up until my wife prompted me to look again and there was this post that fit me perfectly.
I lived in Reading until 1973 when my father was transfered to Virginia. We moved to Arizona when he retired. I am married and have four children. Please, please call me. If you are nervous or hesitant to call please don't be, or you could email me at SCGRETH04@MSN.COM
Thank you,
Steven Greth
Debbie: I'm tired and not a very high-tech person; I don't know if my last post went to the correct place.
Anyway, I received an e-mail from the young man in Arizona who believes he may be your son. I am in Quakertown. If you would like me to act as an intermediary, please let me know.
If you live within commuting distance of Quakertown, please contact me if you wish to rendevous for a chat.
Hope you receive this. Good Luck...Joyce

Hi!
Sorry for the delay in responding.
The PA Adoption Reunion Registry (PARR) is a mutual consent registry serving PA Triad Members. It is also a FREE computerized system matching persons who desire contact with their next of kin by birth. If you were born in PA, adopted in PA, terminated parental rights in PA or adopted a child in PA, this registry is for you.
Adult adoptee at least 18 years of age or a birth parent, adoptive parent, birth sibling or birth grand parent you can register with PARR. Also, one of the following MUST apply: born in PA, terminated parental rights in PA, adoption was finalized in PA, person who is serching lives in PA, or person you are seeking is from PA.
When a registration is received the information is computerized. If the data matches and if it is determined a relationship exists, both parties will be notified immediately.
If you would like to register with the PA Adoption Reunion Registry (PARR) please email me privately at karkan@comcast.net or visit my website at www.paadoptionreunionregistry.org
You will be contacted by phone if there is a match. It is important that you notify PARR of any change of name, address or phone number. Remember that someone could register looking for you at any time in the future.
Thanks and I look forward to hearing from you.

Karen:
He is here in PA now. Our first meeting was Thursday evening. It is wonderful. Steve and his sisters are busy getting to know each other. Our whole family adores him and his wife. This is a true blessing. He was taken care of and loved as I had hoped. Plus I am a grandmother of 4 lovely children.
Debbie
Still can't believe that this has happened after 33 years.
