hello,
we are an army family (american/german) stationed in germany, wanting to adopt from haiti. we are very new to adoption and do not even know if we really can adopt (because of the costs). My husband is a SGT and we do not have savings, but we are doing ok and could definitly care well for another child (we have one bio boy- 3).
We would also like to start our homestudy, but don't know where to do it. Does it have to be my husbands home of record (Texas)? We asked a social worker at ACS but they did not know either. We will be thankful for every reply...
God bless,
dana

Dana,
Have you been to the family support center on base where you are stationed? I would think they would be able to point you in the right direction concerning where to get a homestudy done while being stationed overseas. My husband is in the Air Force, we are stationed in Alaska, adopting from Texas and our home of record is Georgia and we are doing our homestudy through an agency here in Alaska so I would say no it doesn't have to be done in your home of record state. But with you stationed overseas and doing and international adoption things could be different. Now we did have to get a homestudy outline from Texas b/c some states require things during a homestudy that other states don't so we had to make sure that our agency here follows their outline.
I hope this helped a little bit. I wish you all the best of luck on your adoption journey!!!

we are also stationed in germany and the social work services on our base is going to complete our homestudy for us. we are going through our home state, KS, with an adoption the only requirement for KS adoptions we haven't been able to complete over here so far is Mapp (model approach to partnerships in parenting) class which ks requires to be completed to be considered a waiting family. mapp is the only thing keeping us from being able to adopt a child from the states while stationed overseeas. so if your acs has no info find out where social serv. is on your base and talk to them

Hello David,
I am also over in Sig. My husband is Navy and I work for MWR. How is your adoption going from here. We have just decided after a long time of pondering over adoption to go through with it. We are the very start of the process. Where will you be adopting from? Any info would be great to help us get going.
Thanks,
Jenny

My husband and I are in Hanau, Germany and are still looking for someone to do a homestudy. Jane Santos is now w/ Randy Barlow according to his website, but we haven't been able to get ahold of them yet. The email addresses on their website come back as unavailable, but we put in a call to them so hopefully we'll hear. Just wondering if anyone had other recommendations.
