hi all,
i have a question. first a little background. we are in cali and we were matched with a biracial baby girl in FL in march. we got the call on friday and had to be in FL by monday to take the baby home from the hosptial. we spent 10 days there waiting for the inter state stuff and were Very glad to be home with our baby by late march. our agency wasnt licensed in FL so we had to hire an additional FL agency, somehow the paperwork for finalization got filed there instead of cali like we had planned. we have a hearing date of 8:30am, july 6th for our finalization. we are to be present by phone with a notary. so we will not have the usual hearing day festivities, no pics with the judge, no day in court to remember. now i know the important part of all this is that our daughter will finally be ours YaY! but i still want to find a way to make this day memorable. has this happened to anyone else? does anyone have any suggestions as to fun stuff to do in lieu of court pics. MIL will be here since she is a notary, so we have the beginnings of a party.
thanks

We weren't allowed to be in court for our first two adoptions conducted overseas. (We lived overseas, ourselves.)
For the next three older child adoptions.......the courtroom---travel and questioning, made the day uneventful, I'm afraid.
For the sixth child----a baby....the date had been cancelled so many times due to court docket delays.......we were just glad to finally have it over.
For the seventh baby.....and probably final child.......I'm hoping that SOMEHOW...there will be some 'singin' in the streets'!?!?!?!?
I will say though....that for every adoption.....we have purchased something special for each child.....be it a ring, a necklace, or a special stuffed bear with the date and something special written on a ribbon around its neck. We have always 'gone out to eat' afterwards, too.
But.....the fact that your MIL will be there is wonderful. None of our blood family has ever been present for any of our adoptions. You are fortunate. I would take a photo of all of you .....next to the phone. Then, I'd go out, throw a party and take a lot of photos.
I have wished sometimes, that we would have pursued the 'celebration' part of the court stuff...rather than just 'letting it go'. But, years later.........one lives and learns, I think!
Congratulations!....and enjoy!
Most Sincerely,
Linny

wow linny, 7 , you are a Brave woman! congrats to you. thanks for the ideas, i really like the buying her something special like jewelry part. mainly cuz i Love jewelry and want to do something like that for her. we got our video camera working so we plan to tape the whole thing as well as take pics too. and i'm so happy grahamy(she chose that spelling ;) will be there too.
this will be a great day for us all.
we kinda changed Em's name from when we were in FL and thought that her first birthcertificate would come w/o the right name so we thought we had time to change it once we got the first one, but we were informed today that the name we choose will be on the first birthcert. so i had to contact the agency and have it all changed on the court papers. but we got it done and all worked out smoothly. So we dont have to worry about getting a new BC once all is final.
we changed it to Emily-Rose Taylor. we decided to ---- her first name so she could use one or both later if emily is tooooo popular for her taste and her new middle name is grahams & papa's last name (husbands step-dads last name)
So glad we got all the particulars figured out so we dont have to change anything later.
thanks again
