We have just made our decision to adopt. Now we are trying to decide Domestic or International (russia, azerbaijan, easteurope)? Our research leads us to believe that u cant get a closed adoption domestically w/o waiting 3-5 years! International seems so much more costly! How did you all decide which one was best?
Hi, Unfortunately, I don't think you will get many replies on this particular board, since I believe that Azerbaijan is currently closed to foriegn adoption.
The russian board is quite active, however. You may want to post your question there.

Hi
Just wanted to let you know that many waiting children are adoptable through your state social service system. It is not for everyone, but many people have been suprised at this option. My DH and I were waiting for adoption #2 (Domestic newborn) for over 2 years when we started to research international adoptions (same countries as you) It was as expensive as domestic newborn, and the children were close to toddler age - which is why we thought we should at least look into adopting from our state. I made the initial phone call in January of 2004 - twin 6 month old babies were placed in our home 3 weeks ago.
I know we might be an unusual case, but the same time our social worker talked to us about these twins, we were also informed of a 2 and 4 year old sibling set and a one year old boy. I would encourage you to make the phone call. If nothing else, you would have educated yourself to another possible way to make your family.
If you would like to talke further, please feel free to response or pm me.
Best
