Hello everyone. My husband and I just begun looking into adoption as a option due to infertility issues. My husband is in the Air Force and we are stationed at a site in southern New Mexico.
I am kind of overwelmed at the price of adoption. I can not understand why the cost is so high..I know that the attornies and others need to be paid its just alot of money.
Anyways to the good part....we are looking possibly into a domestic adoption. Does anyone know of any good agencies to brag about?
I look forward to learning more from everyone.
Good luck and God Bless,
Angie
Angie,
We also adopted our son when DH was AD/USN (now RET/USN). What I found was that costs varied from nothing to well over $30,000 depending.
Most waiting child/foster care adoptions have no or very low fees.
Most domestic parental placement situations have fees & costs under $10K. Generally the more professionals and para-professionals involved, the more fees. Also, it is not absolutely necessary and not all situations involve providing financial support to an expectant woman making an adoption plan.
Most situations you see 'advertised' in domestic parental placement are done so because the fees are extrodinarlily high, therefore it's harder to find paparents.
Don't underestimate the value of your own personal networking and searching in tandem with agency and attorney efforts. Especially being military, you've got a vast network of people who may help you find the connection to your child. DH regularly gave out business cards and talked with people in his squadron. We were approached by one AD woman looking to place and another whose 16 YO daugher was considering placing - niether of these people were ones DH knew directly, rather they came through 'word of mouth'.
HTH, best of luck.
Regina
