I have a question. I was under the understanding that if I wanted to turn an adoption before the 16 months customary in Idaho was legal. I just found out that if I did, I would go through hell. How much trouble will I be going through to get my rights back?
Who told you that you had 16 months? In Idaho unless there is fraud or coercion, which BTW is about never proven and rarely makes it to court even, there is a 30 day period (which is rarely mentioned to birthparents) to change your mind.
I have followed several Idaho Supreme Court cases and NEVER has an adoption been overturned. The Judge who heard mine said he would never overturn once placed, under any circumstances, some tape editting was involved, children in the hospital, no agency or attorney for me...Yet the ppl were "bonded" so to bad.
PM me if you want lawyers names that may take it, but I am truly sorry to say..chances of overturning an adoption in this state are very slim. Teresa

If you remember at the time of the adoption the judge most likely told you that you have X amount of time to appeal the decision... If you had a lawyer or a good judge they would have told you that it would be a struggle because if you were willing to give your child away what makes you so fit now?? That is the way they think about it instead of maybe you just needed a little help so if I were you....
I would prepare myself for a fight but have legitamite documentation to support that you have changed for the better such as a note from a counselor/therapist..
Good luck I am in a battle myself that I am trying to get through!!
