We are waiting for the court date to adopted our little eight year old special needs boy CH. CH has been with us since July and had been in serveral Foster homes since his placement with the state. He had been in the system since he was age four. He has several problems but the one that most concerns us is his ADHD in which he was just switched from Ritlan to Adderal about six months ago. We are now seeing some aggression, and we don't know if it is medication or if it's just that he is getting use to his new home. He also takes Clonidine during the day and at night. He was on four different medications but is now down to two. The other was a sleep aide and for bed wetting. I chose not to give the meds for bed wetting instead he just sleeps in good Nites and we use a whole pill of the clonidine for sleeping now which he seems to sleep a lot better. He has a great appetite even though he doesn't seem to gain weight and is small for his age. We are just concerned about his aggression & agitation. We are going to theraphy today and to his medication doctor to see what they think. I was just wondering if anyone out there has had simular problems. Got to love em all boy!!
Your fson CH has been with you since July and you're waiting for a court date to finalize? That seems really fast. We had Raj 8 1/2 months from placement to finalization, and that is one of the fastest that most cws have heard of.
I just mention that because it takes a while for children to settle in and show their true colors. And usually the older the child the longer the amount of time. With O it took 3 months of H@LL for him to finally settle in, reason being he was shuffled around a lot and didn't have any sort of transition. With R it really only took 2 months for him to settle in, but his was an easy process as he was very well prepared by his former fmom.
Does CH see a pediatric neurologist? Has FAS been ruled out? What about other disorders?
I'd give CH some time to settle in. He's probably been through alot since he's been in the system 4 yrs. Less than 3 months really isn't a lot of time for an 8 yr old.

We have had plenty of visiting with CH before placement into our home. We started with day visits then increased into weekends for several months. We have a great attorney whom recently got the 90 day waiting period waived. We connected really well even from the beginning of meeting CH. He even looks like us!
We had been searching and waiting for over 3 years actually we started our process about five years ago. His transition has really went well up to this point. We did see his theraphist and doctor yesterday and they upped his adderal 5mg to see if this would help because he was on such a low dose of only 10mg. They both assured me yesterday that he was just testing both his new parents and surroundings.
He also suffers from some balancing problems which make him a bit clumsy but with us that has improved through play and learning how to ride a skate board. I don't think he was able to do a lot of play theraphy with his foster mom she was up in age a little. He has been to a neurologist, heart doctor, gastrointologist as some of his other disorders required it.
He has also been tested in school this year and test below average but has made vast improvements. CH is in the second grade which he should have been in the third and they said that he tested on a kindergarden to a first grade level. He is in a great school that offers plenty of resourse classes and a great staff that are willing to meet his educational needs.
