We went to court yesterday and his rights were terminated by default. It took all of about fifteen minutes and now we have to wait 60 days for the appeal time to be up. Our attorney said that we don't have to worry about that. We are all very happy!

Congradualtions!!!!!!!!!!!! I am so happy for you. Doesn't it feel good to have the worst of it behind you. Again congrats on your child being safe.
Thank you!! It has been over a week since we went to court and the more family and friends that we share the news with the more real it has become. My oldest is eight and we have informed her of what is going on every step of the way and she was very excited to hear the news last week.
I would like to say to anyone who is thinking about doing a stepparent adoption, to just do it. I was very worried at each step, but it is so worth it now that the worst is over with. Our life is back to the way it was, the stress is gone and best of all, we know that our children are now safe. I felt very guilty for a long time, like it was my fault that the BF did not contact the children, or if I received a "token" child support payment I wanted to send it back to the DA's office. All that guilt is gone now and I know that our children are going to have a wonderful childhood. I don't have to worry about the BF coming into their life ten years from now and turning it upside down because the children don't know him.
The adoption should be final before the summer (at least that is what we are hoping for)! From what the attorney and social worker have said cases are pretty backed up. I really think we are lucky to have found a web site like this one, it is very informative and lets us all know that we are not alone. I hope that I can help others by answering questions in the future.
