I have obtained the forms required by my local court house (LA County) to begin the step parent adoption of my son by my husband, but it has a section that states when we were married and divorced and we were never married at all. Does anyone know what I should put in this area instead?
Also, my ex had proposed my husband adopt my son about 5 years ago, but it was for the reason that he did not want to pay child support and we were not ready for that step yet. We have not seen him since and do not know where he resides anymore. Should I try to find him and have him consent or just file under the abandonment section. After 5 years of no contact or support I am possitive we qualify for it!
Thank you in advance for any advice or help. We really can not afford a lawyer so we will have to go this alone.

The forms do not have numbers on them. They were links on the local web site and they call them Petition (see, APP. A, Form 9) A Decree of Adoption (Form 10) and both of these ask for marraige dates for the natural parents. It also says I need a consent Agreement (Form 4) which is not availabe on line, but in the description states only for multiple children. I have read so much that maybe I need to step back and look at it again tomorrow. Any help is very greatly appreciated! Thanks!
Try this link:

Then click on the link for the California State Judicial Council's web site, then scroll to the Adoption forms. This should help you out. These forms are for the entire State of California.
I hope this helps!
I would look into it because in my county you have to be married for at least 10 months before the finalize a stepparent adoption. I have heard on this forum some people say 1 year of marriage now as far as any laws I have yet to find them. I would ask the court if the adoptoin can go through if you are not married and if it can then ask the court clerk what people who are not married put in that space. I filled all the papers out myself but I relly did not have any discrepencies like that. Now in our county all you have to do is file the papers, the probation officer or the social worker will decide what fam code to file under. I also know that regardless of if you get a consent or file under abandonement you are going to try and find him. The judges like to see you put forth the effort. But there is a certain way to do it for the courts so I would not spend very much money trying to find him, you might have to spend more if you dont.
