Dear Military family-
Please see the attached link. A senator is proposing 3 weeks of paid leave for military families who adopt. This would be great for bonding. It is Senate bill 487 in the 109th Congress.

If you believe this bonding and attachment time is important and should be a military benefit, please contact your senator. We do not have our blessing yet, but I know the time off will be beneficial when he comes!

They do not. Sorry. Must save up leave time. No special requirement for adoption, and no FMLA leave allowed for AD.

When we adopted my Husband had to take a weeks leave to travel to Korea, but once home his commander allowed him all the time he needed. Unfortunately with the program he was working they had a big review shortly upon our return. I think sometimes it's up to the discretion of the commander. Having something in writing would be wonderful, that way those who can't get the time off they need without taking leave have an option. Shelley

Thank you guys!!! The only thing I have in my corner is my base commander and Command Chief are involved and have been helping me out. Plus thank goodness I will be moving on base! And my brother and law and niece are coming out when I ave to go back so I won't have to put the baby in day care until 8 weeks old!!!
