Hello to everyone, I am new here. My husband and I want to adopt a little boy from Ukraine. We have two children and live in San Diego. I was born in Russia and moved to U.S. 10 years ago. I am fluent in Russian and if someone needs help. Just want to help. Can someone tell me how to begin the process as an independent? God Bless your familes

Reminder From The Moderator:All agency specific discussions must be done in private. Discussing agency specific timelines, dossier preparation time, application process time, referral times fees and any other agency specific information falls under this guideline.
Discussing the ӓIn country process is fine, provided it doesnԒt get into specifics regarding the agency.

I have never heard that some regions are more friendlier than others. I would say that generally, people in larger cities have more relaxed attitude toward Americans overall and to international adoption in particular. But, I would not even worry about it, because you are dealing with a small number of people when going to find your child. Most of the people around you would not know why are you there. You will deal with people who are in the adoption field, and they know why are you adopting and I would say, they have normal thoughts about people who want to make children happy.I was born in St. Petersburg but I lived most of my life in Voronezh (city 400 miles south from Moscow) I was adopted from a small baby house in the suburbs of Voronezh. It is in woods with excellent nature around. I visited that house few times in my life helping them to showel the snow. Kids there are from newborns to 3 y.age.

Wow!! You Are The Only Person That I Found On This Site That Is From Russia And Was Adopted As Well!!
I Was Born In Kiev And Was Adopted When I Was 10 Days Old By My A Parents. I Found Out I Was Adopted 4 Mos Ago At A Ripe Old Age Of 33, And Now Want To Find My Birthmother.are You Looking As Well? Would You Know If In Ukraine There Are Archives That Can Somehow Trace A Person By Their Maiden Name And If She Got Married A Name Change? I Came To The U.s. In 1979 And My Language Skills Are Not As Fluent As I Hoped . I Understand Everything ,but My Vocabulary Is Not Perfect.any Help Would Be Greatly Appreciated.
Bolshoei Spacibo!!!
I do not know how Ukraine works about birthmother's location. I was born in Russia and lived there for 24 years. My a-parents lived in Russia all their lifes. I came to US at 24. I found out that I was adopted at 10 (very painful finding for me b/c my a-parents were abusive by saying that) They would say nasty things about me all my childhood. You know, the attitude about adoptive kids is very bad in RUssia. They considered to be stupid bastards. Well, I do not care any more. I have J.D. in law, M.A. in foreign affairs, and PhD in Foreign Affairs. I proved by all means I am not stupid. But, it is all I do all my life-trying to find another proof for them that I am normal. (They still do not believe) I was not trying to find my b-mother in Russia. I would like to, but do not know how to do it right now
Hi
I Am Soo Sorry That Your Childhood Was Soo Tough ,my Relationship W/ My A-mother Wasn't Peachy Either, But My A-father Is A Dream Come True!! Whatever My A-mom Was Not He Was That And Then Some !! Acording To My A-mom ,my B-father Was An Opera Singer, And She Tortured Me My Whole Life To Play The Piano , Soo For 13 Years I Played ,entered Julliard Pre-college Division And Once I Turned 18 Haven't Touched The **** Thing!! Entered Nyu And Majored In Dentistry, And Have Been Working In The Dental Field Since.
Judging By Your Acedemic Accomplishments , You Don't Need To Prove Anything To Them And If They Are Not Proud Of You Then Screw Them!!!
I Contacted The Ukranian Embassy In Hopes Of Getting Some Info On My B-mother , I Just Have To Go There In Person And Make An Official Request For My Birth Records.i See That You Are Interested In Adopting A Boy From Russia, Are You Looking To Adopt A Baby Or Older Child? You can read more about the process of adopting independently from Ukraine on my website

There are tons of families stories out there describing their process and information on how to put together the dossier.
Also to the poster seeking her birthmother....there is a person in Ukraine, his name is Ruslan, that we used to find my daughter's birthmother. I don't see any reason why he couldn't also help to find yours. Email me at packerpatriot@hotmail.com and I will give you his contact information.
