 We got a letter in the mail for a large group meeting in November at one of the LDSFS offices -- they said there is an announcement for all prospective adoptive couples:
"Some very important changes have recently been implemented by LDS Family Services that will have a large impact upon you and your ability to adopt a child."
Does anyone know what this could be about? Has anyone seen any details about changes? Please let us know!!!

Well a couple of the new policies are about openness and about designated adoptions. Also there are some new money options for helping potential birthparents with living expenses.
Basically in the past LDSFS has only allowed closed and semi open adoptions. A couple years ago they began allowing openness after finalization. They now are pretty much allowing adoptions to be as open as the birth and adoptive parents would like from the beginning.
Another thing they went over in the classes is designated adoptions and getting the word out about that. They had ideas for waiting couples to promote themselves and to help find their own potential situations instead of just waiting to be chosen at the agency.
The third new policy is they now allow adoptive parents the option of helping with the birthparents expenses up to $3000. If a potential birthparent needs help with expenses then the adoptive couple will be allowed to help if they want up to $3000. In the past they only charged their fees and didn't have the couples pay any living expenses.
I think these changes are great. If I got any of them wrong or misspoke please correct me anyone :)
