My Husband and I are hoping to soon begin the process of adopting independently from Panama. He is a Panamanian/US citizen, and although we know that it is going to be an arduous process, we have feel like our family has a very rich heritage in Panama which compels us to adopt from this part of the world. We have recently contacted our local county court and been referred to an individual (who happens to be bilingual) in our area who can perform a homestudy for us. He does not have experience working with Panama, and is a little new to the process of homestudies in general. However, he will be working alongside someone in the community who is well established and highly recommended. I feel very good about working with this person. We like the fact that he does not have a heavy case load and may be able to complete our homestudy fairly quickly. However, I have read that a homestudy should be performed by an agency or individual comparable to Panamanian Social Services. Does anyone know what this means?? I have even heard things about Judges basically "throwing out" someone's homestudy because it didn't measure up to standard. Can anyone help me get some idea of what kind of qualifications I should be looking for when selecting someone to perform a homestudy? Thanks much for your help!
