Hi All:
I've been with my husband for almost 12 yrs (legally married for 3). My daughter is 13. He has been in her life since she was 1 1/2.( We have a child together that is 9). Her bio father left without a trace almost at the same time I met my husband. We lived in NY, but moved to Fl. 2 years ago. I read that I might not need the bio consent to adopt, because she's over 12. Is that correct.? She knows about her bio father, but doesn't talk at all about him. She doesn't know him at all. The only man she knows and recognizes as a father is my husband. It was heartbreaking when we had to tell her the truth about her bio, but she's a smart girl. Right now I'm looking for attorneys around my area. Is this a long process? I tried contacting the law library to get the forms to start the process, but they told me that I need to contact the bio. How can I do that, when I haven't seen or heard from him in almost 12 yrs.? Will this be a fast process, being the fact that she's 13?. Does anybody have any idea of how much this will cost us? My daughter wants this as much as we do.
Thanks

It has the forms and family law rules and other resources. You should be able to do this with out a lawyer. In stead of it costing alot of money it be very time consuming. I am in the process of stepparent adoption in GA and it took me months to locate all the forms. That is more than half the battle. Call the clerk of the court in your county to find out what all forms you will need.
