I am a searching for my son born in Decatur, GA on August 15, 1979. He was placed through LDS Social Services (now LDS Family Services). I received some non-identifying information that indicated that he was sent to the Northeast (the woman I stayed with while pregnant volunteered for LDSSS -- I talked to her recently and she said she thought New England). The information said that the adoptive mother's father died at the age of 50. Before his death, he worked at a shipyard. The a-mother's mother worked at a shoe factory. At the time of the adoption, the a-mother was 31 and her mother was 49. That means her mother was 18 when she was born. Given that information, I concluded that the a-mother's father had probably died between 1977 and 1979 -- otherwise his wife would've been 15 or younger when they married! The information also led me to believe that the a-parents lived close to their extended families and that my son was their first child.
The challenge is to find a shoe factory that was in business in 1979 and a shipyard within commuting distance of each other. I was wondering how hard it would be to find obituaries from the Groton area between 1977 and 1979 and if anyone knows anyone who could help? I believe if I find the right obituary (I know the make-up of the immediate family) I can get some names.
I would appreciate any help anyone can give me.
Thanks,
Debbie
Sounds like Massachusetts to me.
Brockton, Mass. has shoe factories
and ship yards near by in Quincy.
