I was just wondering if anyone had any legal understanding of adoption in Kentucky. This is my situation (it is very confusing)...my friend Lisa has a niece whom she gained custody of because her brother and his wife medically neglected the baby. She fought for custody not because she wanted to take care of the baby, but because she wanted to keep her away from the parents. I tried to talk Lisa into letting the baby go to foster care, but she said that she couldn't do that because she would feel guilty. She asked me if I would take care of the baby for her and I agreed as long as she would help me fight to get the parents rights taken away and allow me to adopt the baby. She agreed. I moved into Lisa's home and took care of the baby for more than a year. I treated her as if she were my own child and she called me mommy. Lisa was very ungrateful for what I had done and every time we got into an argument she would threaten to not let me take care of the baby anymore. I finally got to the point that I couldn't stay any longer. I couldn't allow her to use the baby to control me. It was not fair to the baby or to me. The baby needed more stability than that. I left the house wishing I could take the baby with me, but Lisa refused. She did not want to take care of her, but she would not let me leave with her. Six months has passed and the baby has been passed from place to place because Lisa does not want to take care of her. She is a very unhappy 2 year old now and I was just wondering if anyone could tell me that there is hope for this child. Is there a way for me to be able to get custody of her and adopt her? I am not related to her in any way, but I feel as if I am her mother and she belongs with me. I am single, but I have a nice 2 bedroom apartment. I have a great job and can afford to take care of her as well as give her all the love and support a child needs. Can anyone help me???
