dh and i have been thinking about building a play house for dd. we can buy one from Tykes, but we're exploring building one from a plan or kit. I'm wondering if anyone has done this and can give some suggestions on plans or kits, has an idea of time it took and anything else we should know about.
thanks!
Did you repost this, or is my lack of sleep getting to me? :woohoo: I have no experience in building playhouses, but I hope you get a reply soon.:)

nope, don't think I've posted this before, but then again mommy brain...I must check earlier posts...maybe you're thinking about the kitchen thread? hmmm...
We have a Step 2 playhouse in our yard and the kids L-O-V-E it. We love that it was less than $100, took less than an hour to assemble and it's lightweight enough to move it around the yard as needed to give the grass a chance to grow. We got ours at Toys-R-Us. We also have a slide (Little Tykes) and a Jungle Climber (Little Tykes), and a sandbox with a lid (Step 2). The slide and sandbox were freebies from our neighborhood. All of these things are well-loved by our 3-year-old and 2-year-old.
Hope this helps!
I'm torn between the plastic ones and then having something more durable and longlasting. If we build something, then maybe she can use it as she gets a bit older, you know, playing house and stuff. the plastic ones look like they'll become boring by age 4 or so-is that true?
My husband and his father built a playhouse for our older boy. They used scrap wood found at a junk yard, well actually the doors of kitchen cabinets for the walls and roof. It's about 5 foot off the ground. There are bushes all around the supporting posts. The bushes will eventually be tall enough to almost hide the house.
It turned out great and Shai loves it.

I just saw a HUGE playhouse at Sam's Club for $999. It's made like the little tykes stuff but it's bigger.
We plan to build a playhouse for our kids this summer and I've been scoping out plans online. I'll PM you some sites that I've found.
