Tried something new this morning, and of course I'm super critical of myself... We have music class tonite and I don't want to embarrass her (well, me!) with this. They're all braids with barrettes on the end. I am pretty proud that I at least got it done once :D Honest opinions appreciated!!!

guess I have to post pix seperately

I'm beginning to thing you are my mom reincarnated. :p
I've got a question... What age did you start putting barrettes in your DD's hair everyday? I have started putting them in DD's hair but either she takes them out or the daycare does. Most of the time it's the daycare removing them. If it's a problem they need to tell me instead having me search for the missing barrettes. I'm beginning to think I need to stop putting them on her.

I like your mother. :)
At the first sign of a being able to make a miniscule ponytail which was at about age one (I had an almost baldie baby :D ) I was slapping a barrette in her hair. :D She wore that silly Alfalfa style with one tail sticking up the top of her head and no hair on the sides. :o Since her ears aren't pierced I didn't want anyone to mistake her for a boy, which happened all the time anyway.
Yes, the barrette game is no fun to play. She took them out and lost them all the time. It drove me crazy. :grr: Some daycares won't even allow hair adornments because of swallowing risks. So yes, just ask them what their policy is. I was buying new ones every few weeks but luckily they are pretty inexpensive at beauty supply stores. She was probably a little past three when she stopped taking them out for fun, but even now she'll occasionally take them out and lose them. We're in a new stage and playing a different game now. She and her friends like to compare and show off their barrettes and see who has the best ones. So as childish as it is, I feel like I'm competing with other kids (and mothers) to make sure my dd has the most interesting and fun barrettes. I was in Disney World on business recently and bought her some pink foo-foo Minnie Mouse barrettes. They were a big hit and she was the hands down winner that day. Made Momma proud. :D

I'm dying here, you guys simply must stop!! That is so me! The first time I did it DH looked at me like I had three heads. "Leave my baby's head alone!" he said. Nope, the child's hair was getting too long on top and developing little cuckleburrs. I put two, maaaaybe three, ponies on top every day with bangs in front and a fro in the back. I add a clip or two on each pony for extra pizzaz and that's it! DD leaves 'em in tho so no lost gizmos to find.
My DD has this long patch on the top of her head which I can put into one pony or two with barrettes. Even with the barrettes in her hair some people have the nerve to ask if she's a boy.
I usually only put one in her hair for daycare. I asked them about the barrettes this afternoon when I picked her up and the teacher said that she was pulling it out and putting it in her mouth. That rascal...she never does that around us. Oh well... no more barrettes for daycare, just a dab of pink oil and call it a day.
Sneezy
Are you brushing that baby hair down in the front with a tooth brush? :) It cracks me up everytime I hear someone say that.

Naaaw..I don't need a toothbrush. Just a healthy dose of spit (jk) and a paddle brush. I expropriated DH's a looong time ago.
Very cute! Wish I could do that with Hannah's hair. I did try my first zulu knots yesterday, slightly limp and not sure if I could let her out in public with them, but it's all good practice!

Thanks for your opinions, they make me think maybe I can do this good enough to at least not embarass her!! (I hope someone would tell me if they didn't like it for some reason...) Interesting on the color of the barrettes, I hadn't thought of it that way. - so I went and bought more barrettes so the colors could match, and one of my dogs messed up the pointer finger on my right hand and I haven't been able to work with her hair anymore :( Soon tho!

hey one question, what kind of rubber band do you use for the base of the pony tail? I have problems with almost all pony tail holders except the wrap around ones with balls on the ends. The all seem to meld with her hair and cause torture to get out.
After trying MANY different kinds of band we settle on Scunci Silicone or Latex "rubber" bands. If I wrap them fairly loosely its easy to squeeze the band just enough to get a scissors tip in and cut the band out. What kind are you using?
