Anyone here from California, the Bay Area? I'm looking for people to meet up with. We are CC and have an AA daughter. Anyone close by? We are between San Jose and Oakland.
Kathy
just saying hi, used to live up that way (off berryessa in San jose). there should be a lot of folks up your way. you might want to talk to the folks at pact, (www.pactadopt.org) and see if they know of other transracial adoptees up that way.
good luck, you should meet a few :) .

Hi Lisa. I contacted PACT and they wouldn't give me any names, said it was a privacy issue! We now have a social worker helping us out with our daughter's tantrums and she contacted them and supposedly they'll send us info but I doubt they'll give me any names. Where do you live now?
Did you adopt through PACT?
Kathy
I would suggest you actually join Pact. For about 40 bucks per year you will get their newsletter and other information as well as discounts on seminars and and a discount on Pact's family camp. Their family camp is held once per year in Nor Cal and is geared mainly for families of color and transracial families, though CC familes are welcome to attend. By joining and going to seminars you will have a chance to meet other Bay Area families, as well as get some great info. We are members, you don't need to have used their adoption services to be a member, and we are a CC family. Their seminars are wonderful, their book resources and articles are too.
I do live in the Bay Area, feel free to PM me, though like I said we are a CC family so we may not be the sort of support you hope to find. I seem to remember that their are adoptive parent groups in Oakland and Berkeley and I know there is a very well attended adoptive moms group on the peninsula.
yep, we did.
you might want to leave your information with pact, maybe they'll pass it around.
Berkeley/oakland/sf area has tons of transracial adoptions so it's certainly a good area to start a group. I'd call various adoption agencies and give them your info-they may pass info along. there's also a berkeley parenting group where people post stuff.
I second the notion about joining pact. They are a facilitator for adoptions, but their best work is in the area of counseling/research/information about adopting children of color. if you attend any of their events you're bound to encounter many parents who might be interested. several of their events specifically address transracial adoption. And their camp is awesome from what i hear :) .
dh & i just adopted an aa/cc baby. we live in antich, in east contra costa county. i'd love to have a playmate for jack and some insight from others.
