I am visiting my brother who has a son who is about 13 months older than Arianna...we haven't seen them since last summer. We were talking and he made a statement that hit home for me...because C and Arianna are in this same phase...I am hoping this is completely normal.
Here is the scenario...played over and over and over and over daily...
Jeff (my brother) and I are outside talking about his new SUV...C comes running outside...completely oblivious to the fact we are having a conversation...interrupts, is ignored, gets louder...stumbles while rushing toward us...interrupts again...gets *yelled* at for doing this since it has been explained about 100 times in the last 24 hours. :grr: :grr: :grr:
I look at Jeff and with a huge sigh of relief say...'That is 'normal' right?' Jeff says 'yes and I feel bad....like he is a beaten down dog but...what do you do?' I agree and we talk about not wanting them to grow up brats and how hard this is...and we both hope with their birthdays looming that it will get better.
So, does anyone else feel like this....like at the end of some days the poor kid has to feel like a beaten down dog for being told to 'pay attention', 'listen..with your ears~not your mouth', 'I am the boss', 'Mommy does know what she is talking about', 'don't interrupt', 'use your manners', 'if you watched where you were going you wouldn't walk into things...trip, fall and so forth???'
Arianna actually got a her fanny smacked today (shocked the heck out of her) for being beyond defiant and playing my mom...against me.
Of course, this is the same child who I have gotten so many compliments on for being polite...while on this trip. :grr:
Sooo...whadda ya think?
I can so relate to your post. Yes, some days it feels like every word that comes out of your mouth is to scold them. And yes, to everybody else the child is so 'sweet'...what are you complaining about, they ask :( . I don't know what the answer is, but you might try reading Love and Logic, if you haven't already.

After a long day of my daughter being told "quiet down", "keep your hands to yourself", and "no running" over and over again, she enjoys going to karate class where she is told to "yell louder", "hit harder", and "run faster." I take a bubble bath with a good book for my "me-time," she goes to karate.
Of course, I like it because someone else gets to tell her to "use self-control" and "show respect" besides it being me all the time.

I refused to tell her more than 100 times for ANYTHING, and I warned her that once I had told her 100 times, there would be NO MORE WARNINGS, only consequences.....
I don't actually count....but you get the idea.....Straight to a time out, no explanation......when I go in to discuss, she knows EXACTLY why she was sent there.... and I usually get one or 2 other confessions of things I was unaware of in addition!
