We got "our call" June 27!!!!
9 year old boy, 10 year old girl.
If things go good when we read the disclosure, we will meet them.
Considering this is the summer, I am almost betting that they will place them in our home faster, so they don't have to start school in their foster families home.
Am I off base with that?
Also...anyone ever adopt through the summer? How do I enroll them in school if no one is in the office?
And finally, if you had this situation, was it difficult for the kids (perhaps not being able to say goodbye to their school friends during the summer, etc)?
How did you make it easier for them?
Thanks in advance for your help!
Our placement happened in the summer. And yes, they will probably try and move the kids before school starts, but that still gives you time for a decent transistion.
As for enrolling in school, most districts won't let you enroll until you actually have custody, BUT you can call the school and notify them so they can be prepared. (In case class sizes reach a limit and they need to hire a new teacher.)
I can't answer your questions concerning friends as D didn't really have any. But you might ask the foster parents and caseworker for ideas.
Congratulations and good luck!
Blessings,
Jenny
