Can anyone tell me what is the closest county agency in Sarasota county?
We are certified foster parents in Pa...and now we are moving to Fla. in a month.
I told our CW here that we will need to do the interstate compact with Fla.
We are going to look for homes in 2 weeks. While we are there I would like to contact Child services there so we can get things moving in the right direction with paperwork.
Any info. would be appreciated! Is there a foster parent support group in the area?
And can anyone just give me info. on the area ( I know a little bit because I used to live in Cape Coral for 10 years) --- what are some fun things to do with the kids?
Thanks!

When we moved to FL from CA they wouldn't even talk to us until after we had moved. I was going to type something sarcastic but decided to take the high road. We actually lived in FL for 8 months before we finally got our license. Finished the required MAPP classes in Feb. Got licensed in June. Good luck and Welcome!!
I can imagine what the sarcasm would be. Totally frustrated here in Fla. but just trying to do everything they are asking of us to do. ALthough our 13 yo fs is waiting anxiously still in Pa. and just wrote a letter to me telling me he is mad at how long this process is taking! Aren't we all!
I know they have to make sure our home is safe - I just find it odd that the sending state (pa) already certified us - and knows we are safe for him - and yet to go thru the whole process again - and have a child wait thru it all is so upsetting.
We are in week 4 of our 10 week Mapp class and I keep trying to explain how we really hope we can be certified by Christmas (our classes end in mid Nov.) - but they just say "it could take up to 8mths"! Which doesn't make it sound like to me that they are willing to hepl move this along quickly. UGH
Our CW in Pa. told us when the paperwork weighs as much as the child - then it seems that the child finally can live with you. Well, how sad is that --- these children have waited long enough for a home. Sad.
Yes it is sad. And they are actually advertising for foster homes in Indian River County - and asking us how they can retain the homes!!!! Privatizing was supposed to streamline things. There wasn's a "quick" class that you guys could take? We took the 5 saturdays for 8 hours class that did get us done with that in 1/2 the time. It still took from Feb to June to finally get our license. And now we have to send our renewal "book" in by Feb to be relicesned the following june. It is totally unrealistic and no one in the "state offices" seems to know - or care. Good luck. My prayers and best wishes are with you.
