I'm looking for Nativity Scenes that feature Asian figures. They are surprisingly difficult to locate. Anybody have any ideas for me?

You're right about the inaccuracy of an Asian nativity scene, but the idea would simply be that the child would see a religious icon using people who look like him presumably. I'm familiar with Black nativity scenes but then again the people who buy them may subscribe to the idea that Jesus was Black. (I've got no opinion one way or the other on that one!)But because I take my son to Korean school at a Korean church I've had occasion to spend some time in their facilities. Thus far I've not seen any religious icons with asian faces, but come to think of it I haven't seen any religious icons. Interesting...There are lots of Christian people in Korea, so I'm sure we could find out pretty easily if they use Asian nativity scenes, caucasian nativity scenes, faceless nativity scenes or no nativity scenes.
Sorry guys, I have to agree with nancyinoh. Just the facts alone would make it difficult to find such items. Plus, a lot of what I have read about the Asian culture (esp. Korean) - the majority do not celebrate Christmas in the same way we do (ie, trees, decorations, etc.) so that too would make it difficult to find one. I do wish you luck in finding one - I am trying to incorporate Korean traditions into our holidays as well. I REALLY like the idea someone posted on another thread of the FP Little People Nativity Set - I'd love to get one of those to save my 'fancy one' that goes under our tree! Good luck!

About this being an odd thing to look for.....so, are we to believe that Jesus, Mary and Joseph had blonde hair and blue eyes? That's how they are often portrayed in Nativity Scenes, even though it is genetically really unlikely. So CC's can alter the look of the Nativity, but those of other races cannot?
Not that I have to justify my search, but come on, folks. I wasn't debating the race of Jesus. I simply asked a question about a search.
Each person is certainly entitled to have whatever they want in their home! I am thankful that you are a Christian family, and looking for a nativity scene. I didn't mean to attack you. I just sometimes question the ways that we as adoptive parents try to incorporate our children's birth culture into our lives and homes. My husband is Korean, our bio daughters are 1/2 Korean, and our sons are full Korean. We have Veggie Tales nativity for the kids, and wooden ones without faces for the formal set.Yes, I don't agree with the blonde Jesus, either. But, it is better to have a blonde or Asian Jesus than none at all.My apologies!
You may want to try Ten Thousand Villages.I remember seeing many nativity scenes from numerous countries in their store. Not sure of the availability online though.Also, check out (PM Member for Link) they seem to have a large collection of sets, maybe they can point you in the right direction if they don't carry it themselves.Gina

Being something of an amateur historian, I personally prefer historically accurate representations, myself. My best friend's minister is actually who is in search of the Asian figures. We offered to help him.
I am CC, DH is Japanese, and DD is AA. We don't have a Nativity Scene yet. Not sue what we'll get.
I live in Korea right now with my son (hopefully will be sons soon) and I have never seen an asian nativity here, sorry. But if you really want one, why don't you try and make it. Or have someone who is artistic make it. Actually if your kids are old enough, you could make it a family project. Just a thought. Good luck!

I have finally located two paintings of Korean Nativity scenes. I have been looking for an Asian one for over 30years but now have a Korean grandson and wanted one for him. Now my search is for a copy of this painting. I printed one, but would like a nice one. The artist is Woonbo Kim Ki Chang. Hope this helps just a little.

My name is Tami and I don't have adopted children, but I was adopted and I have many friends through the military community who have adopted children from various countries in Asia. I personally collect nativity sets from the various countries that we have been stationed and I love having the uniqueness of each individual set.
