I was up all night with my dd's halloween costume fiasco..so pardon me if this isn't clear. With foster/adopt and our step-parent adoption we had to have fingerprints done along with FBI background checks. We have had 2 within the last year :)! It took 3 weeks for one and 6 weeks for the other to come back. We were told we had to have fingerprints for both adoptive homestudy situations even though they were done within weeks of each other. I'm assuming that the fingerprinting situaion will be the same with LSDFS and we will have to repeat but I did not get anything from them saying to start this process. I found that odd because that is the first thing we did with both other situations. Do you remember when you had your fingerprinting done? Perhaps it differs from state to state? Thanks,L

Like a lot of things with homestudies, it depends on the state you live in. In Utah, you only have to have prints if they are running a full NCIC check on you and they only do that if you have been outside of the state for more than 4 weeks straight or have lived outside the state in the past 5(?) years. Otherwise they just run a state background check which doesn't require prints. Ironically, my husband is a federal law enforcement agent with a security clearance and he's the one who had to have prints done because his job occassionally takes him out of state for long periods of time.
thank you everyone for the replies. In NY you must have fingerprints for every adoption, or at least that is what we were told during our step-parent adoption. Even though I gave birth to my oldest I am also on the adoption petition as her adoptive mother, I know weird, so I had to have a full background check. The office has not been answering their phone for the past 2 days I get forwarded to another office in a different state, I found out it's because their seceratary is out of the office. I know I'm being super annoying but I want to get this done. I'll call again tomorrow. I think dh and I can simply go down the courthouse and have the fingerprinting done, assuming they use the same forms, I can pick those up there as well. I don't want to do it until I get the go ahead. Perhaps they are waiting to see if they will approve us???
