We have been living in our new town for almost 4 months now. I called our church to see what organizations or any activities I could fit into. I am not hugely social, so it wouldn't have to be a bunch or anything, but something where I could feel a part of the community and have my little one there as well.
For women's groups--there is an alter society and St. Vincent de Paul society
No family groups except your regular CCE classes.
No moms groups that meet.
Adult faith formation--there is the RCIA (have any of you gone to that if you are already Catholic?)
My husband is going to a men's group that meets on Monday mornings.
I am wondering how to fit in here. I'd like to do more than just go to mass on Sundays. This past Sunday we noticed a few babies our daughter's age, so I am alsmost tempted to maybe begin something, with permission of course. But I really wouldn't know what, being a first time mom.
Does your parish have activities that you enjoy or can serve as a woman, mother, family?
We have an adoption support group through Catholic Charities, and there are several women's groups in the diocese that do various things---bible studies, cook food for funerals, etc. There's also a parish council. Our church has a school connected to it, so they do a lot of fundraisers, like a trivia night, fall festival, etc. It's my experience that they are ALWAYS glad to have volunteers for those types of things, so that's a good way to get to know people.
Honestly, except for the adoption group, I don't do much with our parish groups---they tend to be lots older than I am. I do a lot of other civic work, and I've made friends through that. However, Dh went through RCIA and has been active as an occasional group leader or sponsor when they need one.
I say if you see some other moms w/babies, go for it and organize a group! Maybe a toy exchange or a babysitting co-op, or even just a play group.

I fel like you when I first started attending our first parish after we were married. I realized that if I was missing something, then other probably were too. So I asked permission to start a women's gathering where we had prayer, fellowship, and a little study of the upcoming Sunday's Scripture readings.
I believe God was prompting my heart to follow him, and help others as well as myself.
One woman in our church started a group which is sort of a Meals on Wheels for families when a new child comes home (usually a new baby is born, and they don't want mom to have to cook) or when someone is or has been in the hospital.
